Mind-Boggling New App: Word Lens

Posted in Adorama Rentals by Nathan Lee Bush on December 17, 2010

I just wanted to take the opportunity to note that the future is now. I was reminded of this today watching this video of the new Word Lens app for iPhone. It translates text from video input in real-time. It doesn’t even require an internet connection to work its magic. Now I won’t have to depend on the kindness of pantomiming nuns during my trip to Italy next year.

The next logical step is live audio translation, which I’m sure is not far off, the way things are going. Interpreters everywhere are sweating. One can begin to imagine a future where movies and television know no geographic borders, with live subtitling translation (reminiscent of the pre-sound film era, when cinema was truly international because there were no language barriers). Peep the video for mind-blowing live-translation action.
